A story
of ghosts, the Internet and family ties
The plot
takes place in a world where ghosts also inhabit the Internet,
clinging to the places where they had strong ties in life. The story
follows Sōji Enishiro, a 15-year-old boy who streams online under
the name "Aoringo." Its content, violent and
provocative, is a façade to generate income and pay for the medical
treatment of her younger sister.
Behind that
controversial image, Sōji is a simple boy, a lover of pudding and completely
devoted to his sister. However, one day he is attacked by a digital ghost,
which leaves him with an awakened spiritual consciousness. He is
soon recruited by the Miden Academy, an institution that
trains digital exorcists who fight entities in the virtual
world.
About
the original manga and relationship with Real Account
The Dead
Account manga debuted in the Weekly Shōnen Magazine in
January 2023 and was later moved to Kodansha's Magazine
Pocket app in October of the same year. So far, the work has 11
compilation volumes, the last of them published on June 17.
Although
they share authors, Dead Account is not related to Real
Account, the previous manga by Shizumu Watanabe and Okushō.
This work was published between 2014 and 2019, with 24 volumes and
a spin-off novel entitled Real Account 0. A live-action film
adaptation was announced in 2018, but this was officially canceled in March
2025 due to "various circumstances".
