Shueisha's Grand Jump magazine
announced that renowned mangaka Hiroshi Motomiya will premiere
a new manga titled Bunnaguri Sensei (Punching Teacher)
in its next issue on September 17, 2025. The play will tell the
story of a passionate teacher who seeks to "break" the educational
system with the force of his own fists.
An
interesting and familiar character
The
promotional images show a protagonist with a very similar design to Tetsutarō
Kurosawa, the central character of the manga Jinsei Iroiro,
also created by Motomiya and published on Grand Jump since
June 2024. This work narrated the life of a man who leaves his corporate job to
live following his impulses, and had a single compilation volume published last
February.
Motomiya's
recent prolific career
In May of
this year, Motomiya wrapped up his Enma manga, the unique
volume of which will be released in the fall. Before that, in April 2023, he
finished Takeki Ōgon no Kuni: Takahashi Korekiyo, the most recent
installment of his historical series Takeki Ōgon no Kuni, dedicated
to prominent figures in Japanese history.
The Takeki
Ōgon no Kuni series began in 1990 and has tackled characters such
as Yatarō Iwasaki, Dōsan, Munenori Yagyū, Tadataka
Inō, Sontoku Ninomiya, and Kimimasa Yuri. Each arc
offered a narrative exploration of its impact on Japanese society.
An
author with a legacy in anime and cinema
Motomiya
debuted as a mangaka in 1965 and has since created titles that transcended
manga, such as Otoko Ippiki Gaki Daisho, Ore no Sora,
and Otokogi, many of which inspired both anime and live-action
adaptations.
Among his
most popular works is Salaryman Kintaro, serialized intermittently
in Weekly Young Jump since 1994 and even published as a web
manga in 2005. This series inspired live-action films, television dramas, and
an anime released in 2001. The franchise continues to be one of the pillars of
Motomiya's career.
Expectation
for Bunnaguri Sensei
With this
new release, Hiroshi Motomiya's fans expect a work that combines his classic
style with a social critique full of humor and drama. Bunnaguri Sensei could
become one of Grand Jump magazine's most eye-catching bets for
this year.
