The demon
hunter franchise is once again making technical history. Kimetsu no
Yaiba's new IMAX format will be the first in the history of Japanese
animation to use the 1.43:1 aspect ratio, offering viewers
unprecedented visual immersion inside the labyrinthine Infinity Castle.
A
vertical experience: Kimetsu no Yaiba's unprecedented IMAX format
Although
many anime have been screened on IMAX screens over the past decade, Infinity
Castle – Akaza Sairai is the first film to feature a special edition
where certain scenes will expand vertically, filling the giant screens from
floor to ceiling. Aniplex has confirmed that these screenings will begin
on February 6 exclusively at two GT laser-equipped cinemas:
the Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro (Tokyo) and the 109
Cinemas Osaka Expo City.
Unstoppable
at the box office
Technical
innovation comes with monstrous figures. The film has already grossed more
than 100 billion yen worldwide (approx. $685 million), making
it the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time in the world. In Japan, it
has already surpassed the legendary Spirited Away, placing itself
as the second highest grossing film in domestic history, only behind its
predecessor, Mugen Train.
Those lucky
enough to attend these special screenings will receive an exclusive A5-size
illustration.
