Let's see,
surviving thirty years in the shredder that is the video game industry
destroys you or makes you an untouchable legend. For the Tales of franchise,
the answer is crystal clear. And to celebrate that they reached the third
floor, they let us know an ad that smells like empty wallets. This Friday it
was confirmed that, for their 30th anniversary, they are preparing
a colossal project of 188 totally new commemorative illustrations.
An issue that sounds crazy, but is a direct tribute to its history within
the RPG.
The
titans of animation who took up the brush
Making 188
drawings is not just anything, and even less so if you want them to have that
supreme quality that fans of role-playing games demand. That's
why Bandai Namco didn't call just anyone. They played it safe by hiring the two
beasts of modern Japanese animation. Just check out the studios that are going
to be in charge of reinterpreting our heroes:
- ufotable in charge of the Key
Illustrations.
The
monstrous studio famous worldwide for the visual effects of Demon
Slayer and the Fate/stay night saga.
- Production I.G as a studio Main
collaborator.
Industry
veterans with impeccable character design, responsible for gems
like Haikyuu!! and Ghost in the Shell.
A
legendary journey that began in 1995
If you were
born after 2000, you may not be able to measure the weight of this name. This
entire Bandai Namco empire started in 1995 and was quickly
crowned as one of the most profitable Japanese sagas in the world. The secret
of its success? Mixing an epic adventure full of fantasy,
real-time battles that made you sweat and a development of bonds between
characters that broke your heart. We grew up watching these heroes fight evil
while debating friendship and sacrifice. It was logical that for their 30th
anniversary they wanted to bring together the classic protagonists and those of
the most recent installments in a single mega visual event.
What
will they do with so much new art during the year?
The plan is
to reveal these 188 pieces in dribs and drabs, over the next few months. What
for? Mainly for live events, promotional campaigns and, of course, an avalanche
of exclusive merchandise that is going to leave us bankrupt.
It's a perfect strategy to attract new blood and give veterans something
spectacular to collect while they wait for the next main game.
