The successor to Shokugeki no Soma? Iron Wok Jan sets its premiere for July

If you thought culinary anime had reached its ceiling with the epic clothing rips and gastronomic orgasms of Shokugeki no Soma, it's time to go back to the genre's more extreme roots. The TROYCA studio has just released the main trailer for Iron Wok Jan (Tetsunabe no Jan!), confirming that this legendary frying pan war will arrive on television on July 5. The preview makes it very clear that we do not come here to see tender recipes; this is pure competitive brutality seasoned with "Hien", the opening by the vocal group Genin wa Jibun ni Aru.

A Squadron of Voices to Burn the Kitchen

To make sure the screaming, frying, and tension feel like we're in the final of a tournament to the death, the production committee put together a cast of top-notch seiyuus. The team we already knew, led by Kikunosuke Toya and with the always imposing narration of the legendary Kenjiro Tsuda, are joined by veterans who will make the stoves vibrate:

  • Takahiro Sakurai as Kei Sawada
Suguru Geto himself in Jujutsu Kaisen and Giyuu Tomioka in Demon Slayer, bringing all their acting weight to the battles.
  • Yusuke Kobayashi as Yuji Kawahara
Immortalized in otaku culture as Subaru Natsuki in Re:Zero and Senku Ishigami in Dr. Stone.
  • M.A.O as Celene Yang
Known for being Pecorine in Princess Connect! Re:Dive and Shion on That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
  • Taishi Murata as Tomohide Jun
An expert in the field, recognized for lending his voice to Shun Ibusaki in Food Wars!
    Shokugeki no Soma.
  • Masuo Amada as Nichido Otani.
An absolute veteran of the industry, known for giving voice to imposing characters of authority in fantasy.

TROYCA's recipe for dominating the summer season

Reviving a 1995 manga and adapting it to today's standards is a risky move, but having Ei Aoki (the genius behind masterpieces like Fate/Zero and Aldnoah.Zero) in the director's chair is practically a hallmark. The team is so obsessed with the details that they hired exclusive culinary animation and "cooking science" supervisors to make every knife cut look ridiculously epic. Add to that the soundtrack by Tomoki Kikuya, the same one who made us rock in Bocchi the Rock!, and we have a heavy contender for the summer season.

Synopsis of Iron Wok Jan

Jan Akiyama is a brilliant but incredibly arrogant young chef who works in a top-notch restaurant. Her ultimate rival is Kiriko Gobancho, a master chef and the granddaughter of the restaurant's owner. While Kiriko defends tooth and nail the philosophy that food should be prepared with love and always thinking of the customer, Jan operates under a much darker belief: cooking is pure competition and recipes are weapons designed to crush enemies. This ideological clash will unleash the most intense, technical and ruthless culinary battles ever seen in a dining room.
