The story of the shy girl and the
self-proclaimed alien who reads feelings with her forehead has its days
numbered, and its author said it bluntly. Rasuko Okuma revealed
inside the sixth volume of Stardust Telepath that the manga
will reach its conclusion with the seventh and final volume. Since
2019, the series has built its story quietly and steadily in the pages of Manga
Time Kirara, and now it has an end on the horizon.
Serialization began in May 2019 in
Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara magazine, with regular
publication since July of that same year. Throughout its seven years, the manga
built a dedicated readership with its gentle focus on friendship, social
anxiety, and the small, extraordinary, life-changing moments of its
protagonists. Umika, who struggles to talk to other people,
and Yu, the exchange student who can read the feelings of others
simply by leaning her forehead against another's, are the heart of a story that
has the merit of not having needed major conflicts to stay relevant.
The series had already crossed over to anime in
October 2023 with 12 episodes, and to the live-action format in June 2024.
Those adaptations gave it visibility beyond the manga's regular readers, making
the announcement of the ending reach a wider audience than the one that
followed the story from the beginning.
Stardust Telepath (Hoshikuzu Telepath) is a four-panel manga by Rasuko
Okuma published in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara since
2019. In 2021, the series was nominated for Best Printed Manga at the
seventh Next Manga Awards (Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taisho),
recognition that highlighted its particular proposal within the slice-of-life
genre. The story follows Umika, a shy girl who has difficulty
connecting with others, and Yu, a new student who proclaims herself
an alien and who has the ability to read other people's feelings in a
completely literal way.
