School tangle comedies add a new contender to
the battle. Through an official statement released by DMM Pictures, the production
committee confirmed that the popular manga Kusunoki-san wa
Koukou Debut ni Shippai Shite Iru (known in English as Kusunoki's
Flunking Her High School Glow-Up), written and illustrated by Mitsuki
Mii, will finally make the long-awaited leap to the small screen with its
own animated adaptation.
The premise of this funny play introduces us to
Keisuke Shizuki, a young man who managed to successfully reinvent himself after
a disastrous and embarrassing passage through high school. His plan to have a
completely peaceful high school life falls apart when he reunites with Shizuka
Kusunoki, a former classmate who seems to have achieved the ultimate glow-up and
is now considered the most beautiful girl in her grade. However, Kusunoki's
perfect façade hides an extremely clumsy teenager who has no idea how to strike
up a simple conversation. To help her fit in, the two agree on a peculiar
temporary friendship that will inevitably transform into a genuine and chaotic
teenage romance
A technical team that promises a lot
To ensure that this beloved franchise comes
to life in the highest possible quality, the production was commissioned to an
interesting collaboration between the Passione studios
and Hayabusa Film. The director's chair will be occupied by Midori
Yui, who will also be in charge of overseeing the general scripts of the
series. In the aesthetic section, the talented Koji Haneda will
take the reins of the character designs, while the acclaimed
composer Hyadain (famous for his work on Rent-A-Girlfriend)
will put all his talent to give us an unforgettable soundtrack. To give voice
to these clumsy protagonists, the production has already revealed the first
stars of its voice cast.
