Marrying for convenience is complicated enough,
but proposing to the hitman sent to kill you takes the romantic drama to a
totally unhinged level. The animated adaptation of Oreko
Tachibana's acclaimed original manga, Firefly
Wedding (Hotaru no Yomeiri), officially confirmed its premiere
on Japanese television for October 9. The announcement was
accompanied by a second promotional trailer, the reveal of new members for the
voice cast, and the ending theme song performed by TOOBOE.
The story takes us back to the Meiji era to
follow in the footsteps of Satoko Kirigaya, a beautiful young woman from a
noble birth who at first glance has it all. However, the girl suffers from a
serious illness that gives her very little time to live, so her only objective
is to arrange an advantageous marriage that will restore her family's honor.
Everything gets complicated when he becomes the target of Shinpei Goto, a
mysterious and ruthless assassin. Desperate to save her skin, Satoko decides to
gamble on an extreme gamble by proposing marriage to the executioner himself,
unaware that for Shinpei the promise of "until death do us part" is
something she takes terrifyingly seriously.
David Production leads the production
The series will be animated by the
acclaimed David Production studio, under the direction
of Takahiro Kamei. The general scripts will be supervised and
written by Yuko Kakihara, while Yukiko Aikei will
adapt the character designs and the NOGRID firm will compose
the soundtrack. For his part, the artist TOOBOE will perform
the closing theme entitled "Yumegokochi" (Trance). The printed work
began publication in January 2023 and already accumulates twelve compilation
volumes on the market, becoming one of the romantic stories with dark touches
most commented on by the community.
