The Sankei Shimbun newspaper reported that the manga written and illustrated by Takao Saito, Golgo 13, will go on hiatus for the first time in 52 years of publication.

The decision was made between the company of Takao Saito, Saito Production and the editorial department of the Big Comic magazine of the Shogakukan publishing house. Issue # 10 of the magazine will confirm this announcement and the resumption date will be revealed later.

The statement explained that it has been difficult for the ten Saito Production employees to carry out their work due to the current state of emergency declared in Japan by the new coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19). Since employees are “absolutely essential” in the manga project, both Saito Production and Big Comic put their safety first.

Saito began publishing the manga in Shogakukan's Big Comic magazine in October 1968 and is currently the longest-running manga still in publication, with 196 compilation volumes published to date. The work has sold more than 280 million copies in various formats, including compilation volumes, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time. The play has also inspired several live-action films, animation films, an OVA, an animated series, and six video games.

Golgo 13 Synopsis
