Azuma began publishing the manga on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket website in January 2018. The publisher published the fifth compilation volume on April 9.
For its part, The King of Fighters is originally a fighting video game franchise that began with the launch of the first game in August 1994. The series was originally developed for SNK's Neo Geo MVS arcade platform, and remained exclusive until mid 2004, when SNK finally ceded it to Atomiswave. In fact, the first concept that the series had was to develop it as a beat 'em up game titled Survivor, until SNK decided to make a fighting game under the subtitle Fatal Fury: King of Fighters, a title that would later see its change to currently known.
