The eighteenth compilation volume of the manga written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge, Kimetsu no Yaiba, is reported to have exceeded 3.3 million copies sold. According to the Japanese website Oricon, this release has become the first volume in a manga to surpass three million copies in circulation in just one year in the past ten years.
The last time this was observed was with the sixty-first volume of the manga written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece, which broke the barrier of three million copies sold just one year after its release.
For his part, Gotouge began publishing the manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in February 2016 and finished it in May 2020. The publisher published the twentieth compilation volume on May 13. The play inspired a 26-episode anime adaptation released in April 2019, and produced by Ufotable Studios.
Additionally, the film Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen is confirmed, which will adapt the "Arc of the Infinite Train" and will be released on October 16.
