Cowboy Bebop live-action series to resume filming

The New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment approved the permission for five international productions to enter the territory and start their recordings in the next six months, even though several other countries are still fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Productions that received permission include the Netflix live-action series based on the original anime Cowboy Bebop.


The Cowboy Bebop production is allowed to have 19 production members plus nine family members. Other series mentioned in the release include the Allspark series, Power Rangers Beast Morphers, the Amazon series, The Lord of the Rings; Netflix series Sweet Tooth and Peter Farrelly's movie Greatest Beer Run Ever. Previously, New Zealand had previously granted permission to the sequel to the James Cameron movie, Avatar, and to the Kane Campion and Netflix movie, Power of the Dog.

Production team
  • The project is a co-production between Netflix and Tomorrow Studios, with Netflix taking care of the physical production. Tomorrow Studios included Marty Adelstein (Prison Break) and ITV Studios. While Shinichiro Watanabe, the director of the original anime, serves as a consultant. Andre Nemec, Josh Appelbaum, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg are credited as showrunners and executive producers.
