The Nintendo company revealed the earnings for the first quarter of the year, the period ended on June 30. The company reported that it sold 5.68 million Nintendo Switch units in that period, an increase of 166.6% compared to the same period in 2019, while 61.44 million units were sold globally. The company also reported having sold 50.43 million units of software in this period, an increase of 123% compared to the same period last year.
On the other hand, the video game Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold 10.63 million copies in this period, to accumulate a total of 22.40 million copies globally. The game is now only behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in total sales of original games for the Nintendo Switch, with 26.75 million copies sold globally. Even now, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold 1.97 million copies in this period.
The company added that the Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition video game has sold just 1.32 million copies since its launch in May. Additionally, Ring Fit Adventure had an overall performance of 4.0 million copies sold recorded at the end of July. Finally, Nintendo mentioned that sales of the title are on the rebound due to increases in production and shipping.
