A recent leak assured that the supernatural mystery
drama manga written and illustrated by Mokumokuren , “ The Summer Hikaru
Died ( Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu )”, will have an
anime adaptation. Although the information is pending official
confirmation, details suggest that the series will premiere sometime in
2025.
For its part, Mokumokuren began
publishing the manga through the Young Ace UP service of
the Kadokawa publishing
house in August 2021. This is the author's first serialized work and the only
one he has published so far, a quite particular case where the author's first
work gets an anime adaptation.
Sinopsis of The Summer Hikaru Died
Best friends Yoshiki and Hikaru have
been stuck like glue for almost their entire lives. They live in a small town
and are the only children their age, so they find comfort in each other's
company. Their friendship seems quaint at first glance, but Yoshiki has noticed
a change in Hikaru's behavior since one fateful summer. The “Hikaru” who now
sits next to him looks nothing like his friend. Even though his physical
appearance and memories of him remain exactly the same, Yoshiki knows that
something is wrong and that the Hikaru he once knew has disappeared.
When he brings up the subject, Hikaru
partially transforms into an otherworldly being who threatens to kill Yoshiki
if he does not accept him, while professing his love for him. Shattered by
grief and unable to let go of his best friend, Yoshiki struggles to move on
with his life as he grows closer to the new Hikaru. At the same time, strange
events begin to devastate his village, sowing disturbing chaos.
