Recently, a poster for the transportation network in Taiwan has caught the attention of anime fans, especially those who follow the “ Sousou no Frieren ” franchise. The poster, which seeks to invite people to use the elevator, features what appears to be a chibi version of Frieren, the series’ protagonist, which has sparked a wave of comments and memes on forums in Japan. Users have pointed out the uncanny resemblance between the poster’s illustration and the renowned immortal elf, sparking both laughter and fan theories.

The poster is a public utility signage in Taiwan, designed with an appealing visual style that includes elements from anime. The characters represent different groups of people: an elderly person, a woman with a baby, a person in a wheelchair, a pregnant woman, and a man with large luggage. They are all grouped together next to a depiction of an elevator, pointing out the convenience of using it:

  • Please take the elevator instead. For your safety, elderly people, disabled people or people with baby strollers, pregnant women and passengers carrying bulky luggage should use the elevator at exits 4, 5 and 6.

In the viral comments, some users have expressed surprise at this unofficial “collaboration.” “ Is Frieren taking care of a baby? ” commented one user, while another pointed out that the baby in the poster could very well be a chibi version of Fern, another of the franchise’s protagonists: “ The baby is clearly Fern, look at her hair! ” Additionally, some joked about Frieren’s possible age: “ I guess she’s already entered the grandmother category .”

“Sousou no Frieren” has been one of the most successful franchises in the anime world in recent years. Based on the manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, the story follows Frieren, an elf who has lived for centuries and who, after the death of her fellow adventurers, embarks on a journey to better understand human life and the emotional legacy they left behind. The anime, which premiered recently, has been a success both nationally and internationally, standing out for its deep narrative and the quality of its animation.

As for the poster in Taiwan, reactions have been mixed. Some humorous comments highlight the perception of Frieren as a “grandma,” while others point out the creative play of the illustrators behind the poster design. “ The illustrator is having too much fun ” and “ Is this grandma’s place? ” others commented.

Despite the jokes, many fans are excited about Frieren's potential international recognition, which could further increase the franchise's popularity and continued success.
