School romance revived with Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Oota

A press release from NBCUniversal reported that Fuyu Azuma 's manga , " Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Oota ( Kao ni Denai Kashiwada-san to Kao ni Deru Oota-kun )", is getting an anime adaptation. The release listed production details and the voice cast, but did not indicate a scheduled premiere date.

The author commented on this:

  • « I've been drawing Kashiwada and the others for a long time, so seeing the anime adaptation finally come to fruition is really exciting! The staff took many of my opinions into account and worked with great attention to detail in a warm and welcoming environment. I feel very fortunate that the series was produced in such a wonderful setting. I had the chance to attend all of the recording sessions, and the voice actors gave their all! There was a lot of laughter at every session (laughs).

  • I'm deeply grateful to everyone who worked on this project. Kashiwada typically doesn't move too much in the manga, but in the anime, they've managed to add unique touches to give it a sense of dynamism (maybe too much?). Ohta moves a lot, too! It's a series that both longtime fans and newcomers will enjoy, so don't miss it !

For his part, Fuyu Azuma began publishing the manga through Kadokawa 's Dra Dra Sharp service in July 2018, and ended it in June 2023. He previously wrote other works such as " 100-nichigo ni Kao ni Deru Kashiwada-san! ", " Docchi mo Kizukanai .", and " Memento Game ", to name a few.

Synopsis of Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Oota

With a self-satisfied smile, Oota ignores his single-digit test scores and searches for a new source of fun. He soon finds himself captivated by his classmate Kashiwada, a mysterious student with a perpetually expressionless face. Oota plots to disrupt her placid demeanor through scares and mischievous schemes, though his tactics always seem to backfire. Oota is known as the class clown and is constantly disciplined by his teacher, who claims that "his face gives him away."

Through no fault of his own, he has no control over his emotions or facial expressions. Kashiwada, on the other hand, always seems indifferent and unreadable: no one knows what he's thinking! Oota and Kashiwada are complete opposites, but that doesn't stop a unique relationship from developing between them. When they realize their feelings for each other, an important question arises: do opposites really attract?
