This  fall , Japanese theaters will be getting a curious animated offering: a musical film based on the novel "Toritsukare Otoko" (The Obsessed Man) by Shinji Ishii . The announcement was made by Bandai Namco Filmworks and Shinei Animation , who have also released a first teaser for the project.

A team with experience in emotions and humor

The direction will be in charge of Wataru Takahashi , known for his work on several Crayon Shin-chan films (2014, 2016, 2018 and 2021). The script will be written by Naoyuki Miura , author of Fujoshi, Ukkari Gay ni Kokuru. , while the character designs are in the hands of Masatsugu Arakawa , who has participated in titles such as Windy Tales and Medabots Spirit .

A story of obsessions, love and redemption

Originally published in 2001 , the novel tells the story of Giuseppe , a man known in his town as the " obsessed man " because of his tendency to focus intensely on a single object for a short period of time. Everything changes the day he sees Pechka , a balloon seller, and falls in love with her at first sight.

However, Pechka's heart is marked by sadness, and Giuseppe can't get close to her as he would like. It's then that, with the help of his mouse friend Cielo , Giuseppe begins to use all the knowledge he's gained from his past obsessions to try to heal Pechka's pain and gain her trust.

A risky bet that mixes music, fantasy and sensitivity

With this adaptation, Shinei Animation offers a film that combines fantastical storytelling with a moving soundtrack , in a musical format that is unusual in the anime industry. The work promises to be a unique visual and auditory experience , centered on themes of empathy, unrequited love, and self-improvement.

The film is expected to open in Japanese theaters between September and November 2025 , depending on its fall programming. At this time, it has not been confirmed whether it will be released on streaming platforms or have international screenings.
