Walt Disney
Studios Japan released a heartwarming animated video titled "Ohana"—a
Hawaiian word meaning "family"—on Thursday as part of the promotion
for the Japanese premiere of the live-action version of Lilo & Stitch.
The short
was created by renowned Japanese comedian and illustrator Tekken, famous for
his flipbook animations. The animation tells the story of Lilo and Nani, two
sisters struggling to stay together after the loss of their parents, until an
unexpected visitor from space, Stitch, appears in their lives to teach them the
true meaning of "ohana."
An Artist
Experienced in Disney Magic
Tekken has
previously collaborated with Disney Japan, creating heartwarming animated
shorts to promote films such as BIG HERO 6 in 2014 and Star Wars: The Force
Awakens in 2017. His signature style, which blends simple illustration with
powerful emotional content, has touched the hearts of millions.
A highly
anticipated premiere
The
live-action Lilo & Stitch film will hit Japanese theaters this Friday, June
7, offering a new take on the Disney animated classic. The release of the short
film "Ohana" seeks to connect with Japanese audiences through a more
intimate and culturally appropriate approach, highlighting the value of family
and resilience.
With this
production, Disney aims to strengthen the emotional bond with local audiences,
demonstrating that universal stories like Lilo and Stitch can continue to touch
hearts around the world.
