The
official website for the anime Kingdom, based on the historical manga by
Yasuhisa Hara, has revealed a new promotional video, a key visual, and the
artists responsible for the theme songs for its highly anticipated sixth
season, which will premiere in October.
The band
Ikimono-gakari will perform the opening theme song "Ikite, Sansan"
("Live, Brightly"), while Sora Tomonari will perform the ending theme
song "Hōkō" ("Roar"). The new promotional video already
offers a sneak peek of the opening theme.
The
creative team returns and the conflict escalates
The new
season will once again be directed by Kenichi Imaizumi, with a script by Noboru
Takagi and character design by Hisashi Abe, in a co-production between Pierrot
and St. Signpost studios. Additionally, Hiroyuki Sawano and Kohta Yamamoto
return as music composers.
In this
sixth season, the intense battle between the kingdoms of Qin and Zhao will
begin, and the protagonist Xin will take Wang Yi's spear and rush into the
battlefield.
A franchise
consolidated in anime history
The fifth
season of the anime premiered in January 2024 and consisted of 13 episodes,
streaming internationally on Crunchyroll. The animated series began in 2012
with a first season, followed by a second in 2013, both of which streamed on
Funimation in North America and were released on DVD in 2016.
The third
season premiered in April 2020, although it was interrupted after four episodes
due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Broadcasting resumed in April 2021, starting from
the first episode. Subsequently, the fourth season debuted in April 2022
through the NHK General channel, with Crunchyroll as the streaming platform.
A story of
war, ambition, and leadership
Kingdom
centers on Xin, a young slave who dreams of becoming a great general in the
service of the state of Qin. Along with Ying Zheng, the young king of Qin, he
shares the goal of unifying all of China. Throughout the story, Xin strives to
rise on the battlefield and lead an army capable of defeating the other six
warring states.
The manga,
recognized for its great impact in Japan, began serialization in Shueisha's
Weekly Young Jump magazine in 2006. Starting in November, Viz Media will
officially begin publishing the manga in English.
With a
story packed with strategy, military conflict, and personal growth, Kingdom
promises a sixth season full of excitement and action.
