The
official website of the anime Kaiju No. 8, an adaptation of Naoya
Matsumoto's manga, published a new promotional trailer for its second
season on Thursday. This preview not only reveals new cast members,
but also the opening theme, titled "You Can't Run From
Yourself," performed by renowned Norwegian singer AURORA, who
is also a declared fan of the anime.
Voices, Premiere Date, and Broadcast
Among the
new additions are Hiroki Yasumoto, who will voice Eiji
Hasegawa, and Kana Hanazawa, who will play Rin
Shinonome. It was also confirmed that actor Kōki Uchiyama will
join the cast as Gen Harumi.
The second
season will premiere on Friday, July 19 on TV Tokyo and
other affiliated channels. In addition, it will be broadcast in real
time worldwide through the X platform (formerly Twitter).
Special
Episode: "Hoshina's Day Off"
As a
prelude to the new season, an original episode titled "Hoshina's
Day Off" will air on Friday, July 5 at 5:00
p.m. (Spain) on TV Tokyo, and will also be available in global
simulcast on X.
This
episode, which was already included in the compilation film Kaiju No.
8: Mission Recon —released in Japanese theaters on March 28—, will
show Reno following Hoshina during a day off
full of mystery with Iharu.
American
band OneRepublic performs the ending theme song
"Invincible (from Kaiju No. 8)" for the special episode. The
script was written by Yuichiro Kido (Dr. Stone) and the
original story was developed by Yūto Tsukuda, creator of Food
Wars!.
A
high-caliber production team
The anime
is directed by Shigeyuki Miya (Onihei) and Tomomi
Kamiya. The script and composition of the series is by Ichirō
Ōkouchi (Code Geass), while Tetsuya Nishio (Naruto)
leads the character design and animation direction. Mahiro Maeda (Shin
Godzilla) designed the kaijus, and Shinji Kimura (Tekkonkinkreet)
was in charge of the art direction. The music was composed by Yuta
Bando (BELLE).
Production
is being handled by Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell),
with support from Studio Khara (Rebuild of Evangelion)
for the monster design.
