publishing house announced today that Keiko Shibata's beloved picture book
series, Pan Dorobō, will be adapted into an anime. Although the format and
release date have not yet been revealed, the news has already generated great
excitement among fans.

The story
revolves around a peculiar character: a slice of bread with legs who steals
bread from different bakeries around the city. With his friendly design and his
mischievous antics, Pan Dorobō has become one of the most beloved characters in
recent Japanese children's literature.
The series
debuted in April 2020 and has won multiple awards, including the 11th LIBRO
Award for Best Picture Book. To date, it has more than 4.5 million copies in
circulation, cementing itself as a publishing phenomenon.

volume in the series, titled Pan Dorobō to Sweets Ōji ("The Bread Thief
and the Old Sweets Prince"), is scheduled for release on Wednesday,
September 10th, continuing the adventures of this delicious criminal.
