This year's
34th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine
announced Friday that HERO, creator of the hit romantic
comedy Horimiya, will release a new manga titled Koe no
Furu Heya (translated as The Room of Fallen Voices).
The series
will feature art by Takahashi Tsutsuji and will officially
premiere in the next issue of the magazine, with a publication date of Sunday,
July 28 (local time in Japan), which is equivalent to the early
hours of Sunday, July 28 at 17:00 (UTC+2) in Spain.
A dark
story about secrets and obsessions
The plot
follows an illustrator who receives an unexpected message from
an old high school classmate. The reason: the presence of a stalker who
stalks her and a plea for help that unleashes a chain of mysterious events.
This new work will mark a notable shift in HERO's narrative style, moving away
from the light tone of his previous works to delve into the psychological
thriller.
A career
marked by Horimiya's success
HERO
achieved great popularity with his original work Hori-san to
Miyamura-kun, a four-panel school comedy manga that was adapted
by Daisuke Hagiwara under the title Horimiya.
This serialized version in Square Enix's Monthly G Fantasy magazine
was published between 2011 and March 2021, with direct oversight from HERO.
The 17th
and final volume of Horimiya was published in Japan in July 2023, while Yen
Press released its English edition in October 2024. The story also
inspired an anime adaptation released in February 2021, with
simulcast on Funimation and English dubbing. Subsequently,
in July 2023, Horimiya: The Missing Pieces, a
13-episode companion series broadcast on Crunchyroll, premiered.
Beyond
Romance: The Serious Side of HERO
This new
manga isn't HERO's first recent foray into more dramatic themes. In June
2024, he released a three-chapter self-contained manga titled Terasu
Hikari wa Ani no Omokage (translated as The Light That
Illuminates Me Has My Brother's Face) in the same magazine. This work also
hinted at a more introspective and emotional approach to his stories.
