The publisher Kodansha has confirmed that the A-DO manga, created by Jaku Amano, will end with its 12th volume. The news was announced with the release of volume 11, published on July 18 in Japan, where it is specified that the series will officially close its story at the beginning of 2026.

A story full of social tension and mysterious powers

A-DO debuted in Monthly Young Magazine in June 2019, and has since captured readers' attention with its mix of action, politics, and science fiction. The plot is set in a Japan altered by a wave of mass immigration, which has generated violent protests by xenophobic groups that reject the country's new multicultural reality.

In the midst of this unstable climate, we meet Riko, an impulsive and aimless young woman who constantly changes jobs. During a demonstration, he witnesses a child about to be hit by a truck and manages to save him in time. The boy, named Eito, turns out to be much more than just a defenseless civilian.

Who really is Eito?

Riko decides to temporarily take care of Eito, taking him out to eat ramen after the incident. But just as they are about to eat, a military sniper suddenly strikes from a distance. The bullet goes through the window of the restaurant, but is stopped in its tracks by strange plant tentacles emerging from Eito's arm.

This mysterious event makes it clear that the boy possesses abilities out of the ordinary, and that there are powerful forces interested in capturing him. From that moment on, Riko's life is intertwined with a military conspiracy of great proportions.

International Publication and Reception

The manga is also being published in English by Kodansha USA Publishing, which released volume 7 on March 4. Thanks to its bold subject matter and fast-paced narrative pace, A-DO has received a positive reception both in Japan and abroad.

With the announcement of its final chapter, A-DO joins the list of contemporary stories that, in addition to offering entertainment, address current social issues with a provocative narrative approach. Its final volume is scheduled for the first months of 2026, thus closing a story marked by struggle, mystery and the connection between two souls in a fractured world.
