The
controversy surrounding Bocchi the Rock! continues to be
talked about. It all started when screenwriter Erika Yoshida declared
that certain fanservice scenes in the original work would be a
"noise" within the anime, which ignited debates on social networks.
Now, several authors in the industry have decided to speak out on the matter.
Mitsuo
Fukuda – Director of Gundam SEED
Renowned
director Mitsuo Fukuda shared his point of view: "In
fact, I may not like the expression 'noise' very much. When I make compilations
or summaries, the cuts are made reluctantly, because every part is necessary
and I would like them all to be seen."
Rifujin
na Magonote – Author of Mushoku Tensei
The creator
of Mushoku Tensei also contributed his reflection: "Words
like 'noise' or 'exploitation' are sometimes used conveniently on social
networks to attack something. Although they do not have such a negative
connotation in the original context, if someone officially linked uses those
terms, unnecessary controversies are generated."
Amano
Sakuya – Author of Konohana Kitan
Konohana
Kitan author Amano
Sakuya recalled an anecdote during a production meeting: "I
asked if in the onsen scene they would put that mysterious lightning bolt that
they would then remove on the Blu-ray. The producer, serious, replied that the
important thing was that the story was good, and that putting erotic fanservice
would be just a noise that would harm the anime." According to
the author, it was a wise decision, although she herself joked that she had
"impure motives".
A
controversy that continues to circulate
While some
comments were made in a more reflective tone and others with humor, the truth
is that Erika Yoshida's statement about the fanservice in Bocchi the
Rock! has served to open a broader debate within the industry. To what
extent do scenes of this type contribute to the story, or when do they start to
become an obstacle?
As a
curious detail, a 2021 print has circulated on Japanese forums in which Yoshida
herself is seen sharing a few drinks with a provocative Super Sonico figure,
which has only fueled the discussion.
