The world of K-Pop receives a tribute from the Japanese animation industry. It has been officially announced that the manga Girl Crush, work of Midori Tayama, will have an anime adaptation for television that will be broadcast by TBS. To commemorate the news, an "inspired visual" drawn by the author and a special promotional video were revealed.

The first Japanese K-Pop anime


Production is being planned and produced by TBS Television and ENISHIYA. This project marks a curious milestone, as it is described as the first Japanese television anime which has K-Pop as its main theme. Although details about the cast, staff or release date have not yet been revealed, the author Midori Tayama he expressed his excitement: "I can't wait for the day when I can see Tenka singing and dancing".


About the work


Girl Crush it is a youth drama that follows Tenka Momose, a first-year high school student who excels in singing, dancing and style. His life changes when he meets Erian Sato, passionate about K-Pop, which leads her to immerse herself in the competitive world of Korean idols.


The manga is published on the label Comic Nicola inside LINE Sleeve and it has surpassed the 900,000 copies in circulation. Its success is not limited to Japan; In 2021, the Korean version won the "New Work of the Year" award at the RIDIBOOKS COMIC AWARD.
