The impact is not over yet. To commemorate three decades of one of history's most influential franchises, the Evangelion:30+; 30th Anniversary of Evangelion festival will stage the world premiere of a new animated short tentatively titled "Evangelion Broadcast 30th Anniversary Special Screening."
The highlight for fans is the direct involvement of the creator of the franchise. Hideaki Anno is listed as the planner, screenwriter and chief supervisor of this new work. The direction will be provided by Naoyuki Asano (animation director on Evangelion: 3.0+1.0), backed by a team of luxury supervisors that includes Kazuya Tsurumaki, Shinji Higuchi and Ikki Todoroki.
Event Details
The short film will last approximately 13 minutes and will be screened once a day on a giant 18 x 15 meter LED screen inside the Yokohama Arena. The event will take place from February 21 to 23.
Kabuki and more celebrations
In addition to the animation, Studio Khara and Shochiku collaborate to present the Kabuki Symphony No. 9 Evangelion project, a Kabuki theater performance that will also be part of the festival. The event will feature exhibition areas, exclusive merchandise and a spatial design led by the creators of Khara, with a visual logo designed by Anno himself.
These activities are in addition to the "Monthly Eva: Evangelion 30th Movie Fest. 2025-2026", which re-releases the films of the franchise in Japanese theaters until February.
