It's time
to dream again! A piece of news that will touch the hearts of fans of classic
anime has arrived. Through the franchise's official X (formerly Twitter)
account, it was officially announced that Magical Princess Minky Momo (known
in some places as The Adventures of Gigi) will have a new
OVA (Original Video Animation).
The
statement was brief but blunt: "A new OVA for Magical Princess
Minky Momo is now in production. Please look forward to more
updates." This project marks the first new animated content in the
franchise in years, reviving one of the foundational works of the magical girl
genre.
The
original series, produced by Ashi Productions, first aired in 1982,
followed by a second series in 1991. Both installments were immensely popular
and established many of the tropes we know today, especially the theme of using
magic to transform into an adult and help people.
About
the story
The plot
takes us to Fenarinarsa, a kingdom of dreams that had to leave
Earth when people began to lose hope. The king sent his daughter, Minky
Momo, on a mission to help humans regain their dreams. Each time Momo
achieves her goal, a jewel called Happy Tear is added to the
royal crown. When the twelve jewels are gathered, the kingdom will be able to
return to Earth.
Accompanied
by her loyal friends Sindbook, Mocha and Pipil,
Momo uses her magic to transform herself into an adult professional (nurse,
policeman, stewardess, etc.) and solve problems.
