Two
industry legends team up to revive a juvenile delinquent classic. Shueisha's Grand
Jump magazine announced Friday that Boichi (Dr.
STONE's artist) will be drawing a new Rokudenashi Blues
spinoff manga titled Rokudenashi Blues: Onikazura. The
work will feature the original story of its creator, Masanori Morita,
and will begin serialization in the summer of 2026.
This
project marks the return of the franchise nearly three decades after its
original conclusion in 1997, generating a strong backlash among old-school
fans.
Rokudenashi
Blues spinoff manga details
As Masanori
Morita explained through his social networks, this new series is not a sequel,
but a story set in the first half of the 1990s, during the original timeline of
the work. The plot will focus on an event that was never shown in the main
manga: the long-awaited confrontation between two of the "Four Heavenly
Kings" (Shitenno), Shibuya no Onizuka and Ikebukuro
no Kasai.
This
rivalry, which fans have speculated about for years, will finally be captured
in Boichi's detailed and dynamic art style.
About
the Authors and the Franchise
Masanori
Morita launched
the original manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1988, chronicling
the adventures of Taison Maeda, an aspiring boxer at Teiken High School. The
series became a mainstay of the genre, accumulating 42 volumes and multiple
anime and live-action adaptations.
For his
part, Boichi is recognized worldwide for his artistry in Dr.
STONE, Sun-Ken Rock and recently The Marshal King.
Their participation in this project promises a striking visual revitalization
for Morita's street fighting.
More
details about the launch will be revealed in future editions of Grand
Jump magazine and its official account on X.
