What in
anime is usually a comic device or a harmless trope with rag-style characters
(as in Ranma 1/2 or Ouran High School Host Club),
in real life is a cause for panic and justified indignation. A disturbing video
recorded in Japan has accumulated more than 10 million views on
X (Twitter) in just three days, showing the exact moment in which a man,
dressed in women's clothes, calmly enters a female public bathroom.

"If
I was a real woman, I would delete the video"
The
recording, published a couple of days ago, was captured by a user who noticed
something strange when she crossed paths with this person at the entrance of
the facilities. Determined not to be left in doubt, the woman waited patiently
outside to document the event. The detail that made the community explode and
that gave a frankly predatory tinge to the matter, was that the subject left
the bathroom wearing men's clothes again. The author of the video clarified
that her intention was to obtain strong evidence and that, if it had been a
misunderstanding or a real woman, she would have deleted the clip immediately.
Japan
blames "Western madness"
So far, the
police have not issued statements or reported arrests, but the internet court
has already issued a ruling. Japanese netizens, accustomed to a country where
privacy and security in public spaces are almost sacred, are furious. On the
forums, the fear that malicious individuals will use the disguise as an excuse
to harass women or install hidden cameras is palpable.
However,
the debate quickly escalated into politics and culture shock. A large portion
of the Japanese community is directly blaming the influence of "Western
madness." They argue that the importation of foreign debates
about loosening gender-divided spaces is emboldening people with bad intentions
to break Japan's strict social norms, putting the integrity of women and girls
at risk.
