The
legendary franchise of magical girls has just woken up after a lethargy of
almost three decades. The duo made up of Bandai Namco Filmworks and Studio
Pierrot released the second official trailer for the long-awaited
anime Magical Sisters LuluttoLilly (known in Japan as Maho
no Shimai Lulutto Lilly). This colorful trailer confirmed that the series
will land on Japanese television on April 5 through the TOKYO
MX network.
To the joy
of fans of the mahou shoujo genre, the committee announced
that the series will be broadcast under a format of two divided cours,
which guarantees half a year of magic on the screen, separated by a short
season break. The footage also included a lively concert sequence that allowed
us to hear for the first time the ending theme titled "Calling",
performed by the idol duo LuluttoLilly, composed of the
protagonists of the story themselves.
Magical
Sisters LuluttoLilly Details
The
directing baton in the corridors of Studio Pierrot is carried by Shintaro
Doge, closely supported by Yuko Kakihara in the
supervision and composition of the scripts. The vital character design, which
must maintain the classic essence of the genre with a modern twist, is a
collaborative effort between artists Hirono Nishiki, Mami
Sodeyama and Namiko Torii.
The
Historic Legacy of the Magical Girls
This
project is far from being just another anime of the spring season. Magical
Sisters LuluttoLilly is being produced to commemorate the 40th
anniversary of the broadcast of the final episode of the iconic Magical
Angel Creamy Mami (1983). Even more shocking is the fact that this is
the first all-new series in the "Pierrot Magical Girl Series" in 28
years, taking over from Fancy Lala in 1998.
