The Ramparts of Ice romcom reveals a new trailer and its opening theme

Building a wall around our emotions seems like the perfect solution to avoid problems, but sooner or later someone ends up finding a crack. The production committee behind the second season of the anime The Ramparts of Ice (Koori no Jyoheki) shared a new trailer and promotional poster for this story. This second video serves to warm up for the premiere of the series, which as it was already known since January, will take place on April 2.

The great novelty of this footage is the first musical look at the work. The opening theme is titled "Toomei" and is performed by the rock band Novelbright. By the closing of the episodes, the production had already confirmed that Polkadot Stingray will perform the song "Sakasama". The trailer manages to capture very well that mixture of discomfort and romance that defines the relationship between the protagonists.

The animation of the project is under the baton of Studio KAI. In the director's chair is Mankyu, who has recently worked on projects such as The IDOLM@STER Shiny Colors. The script is the responsibility of Yasuhiro Nakanishi (Kaguya-sama: Love is War), while Miki Ogino is in charge of adapting the character designs. The music is provided by Kanade Sakuma and Natsumi Tabuchi.

It should be noted that this title was one of the most voted in Japanese polls as "the manga we most want to see animated", which explains the enormous attention it is receiving on social networks since its original announcement.

What is the story about?

The plot introduces us to Koyuki Hikawa, a high school student who feels out of place and prefers to keep her distance from the rest. It's not that he's a naturally cold person, but that he just doesn't know how to break the ice with others. Her quiet but isolated life takes a turn when Minato Amemiya, a rather persistent boy, begins to try to cross that invisible wall that she built herself.

Through four characters with very different realities, the story explores how difficult it is to be young and try to fit in without losing one's identity in the process.

About the original work

Kocha Agasawa's manga was originally born as a webtoon in 2020 through the LINE Manga app. Its popularity was so great that the publisher Shueisha decided to take it to the physical format, publishing its final volume number 14 in February 2025. The play has been a finalist in the Shogakukan Awards and is considered one of the must-reads for fans of modern school drama.
