Puella Magi Madoka Magica Releases New Trailer For Its Film Walpurgisnacht: Rising

A contract that demands souls in exchange for miracles can never end well, and the dark multiverse of magical girls is ready for its next tragic chapter. This Thursday, Aniplex blew up the networks by releasing the third official trailer of the highly anticipated film Madoka Magica (Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgisnacht Rising). After suffering a series of regrettable production delays since its initial window in 2024, the masterpiece of magical suffering has finally set its imminent release in Japanese theaters for August 28.

The new trailer not only squandered the characteristic and disturbing aesthetics of the franchise, but surprisingly introduced two completely unreleased magical girls who will join the already well-known cast led by Aoi Yuki (Madoka) and Chiwa Saito (Homura). To embody these mysterious figures that could alter the delicate balance of Walpurgisnacht, the following talented seiyuus are integrated:

  • Shion Wakayama as Shichoka
Recognized for giving life to Takina Inoue in Lycoris Recoil and Ai Mie in The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses, bringing a characteristic sweet but lethal tone to their characters.
  • Tomoyo Kurosawa as Selma Therese
Famous for playing Kumiko Oumae on Sound! Euphonium and Phosphophyllite in Land of the Lustrous, guaranteeing a performance full of deep emotional nuances.

The Return of Masterminds

The visual magic of this saga would not be the same without its brutal original equipment, and the acclaimed SHAFT studio returns to the fray with an impeccable lineup. With Akiyuki Simbo as chief director and Yukihiro Miyamoto taking over the general direction, the film promises to maintain that oppressive, surreal and artistic atmosphere that broke the internet in 2011. In addition, relentless screenwriter Gen Urobuchi and masterful composer Yuki Kajiura reprise their respective roles, ensuring that this direct sequel to Rebellion is both a narrative and auditory delight.

The technical section is strengthened with the duo of Junichiro Taniguchi and Hiroki Yamamura as chief animation directors, while the unmistakable design of the alternative spaces and labyrinths will once again be carried out by Gekidan Inu Curry. With this squad of veterans at the helm, it's almost a given that the massive wait of more than a decade will be worth every second of existential angst in front of the screen.
