The legendary killer is not retiring: The Fable confirms its second season

Living like a normal person is the most difficult contract that Japan's deadliest hitman has ever had to sign. The production committee of the anime The Fable (The Fable) dropped the bombshell this Thursday: the second season is already a reality and is officially in production. Following the closure of its first 25-episode installment aired in spring 2024, the series is preparing to take the next big leap by adapting Yamaoka's acclaimed arc from the original manga.

For the peace of mind of fans, much of the technical team that managed to capture the raw and comic essence of the work will return to their posts. Veteran Ryousuke Takahashi will return to the director's chair at the same animation studio that worked on the first part, ensuring that the visual transition is flawless. Although we don't have an exact premiere date yet nor has an official promotional image been revealed, the announcement confirms that the story will pick up the events immediately after the end of the first season, delving into the protagonist's past as he tries not to kill anyone in the process.

About The Fable

If you missed the first phenomenon, the story created by Katsuhisa Minami (published between 2014 and 2019) presents us with an infallible hitman whose only order is to disappear from the map for an entire year. If you kill someone during that time, your own organization will eliminate you. What follows is an absurd mix of everyday situations where a man accustomed to death tries to understand how a supermarket works, how to make friends, and how to enjoy a boring life, all while the criminal underworld refuses to leave him alone.

Yamaoka's arc is one of the most tense points in the narrative, as it tests all the rules that the protagonist has tried to follow and unearths dangerous secrets from his training. With the success of the first season still fresh, it is expected that in the coming months the first official trailer will be released that will give us a specific date for the return of this peculiar "neighbor".
