Tetsuo survived the destruction of Earth, eight
years of cryogenic sleep, and a completely frozen planet. What could not
survive was the end of the first season without a second one. Snowball
Earth confirmed its continuation on June 26, 2026, the
same day that the 13th and final episode of the first installment aired,
accompanying the announcement with a teaser that teases what is to come.
The 13-episode first season was produced
at Studio KAI under the direction of Munehisa Sakai,
with TOHO animation in charge of the production. The story he
set is that of Tetsuo Yabusame, the pilot of the giant robot
Yukio who in 2025 fought alongside the Earth Defense Force in the
final battle against a massive alien invasion. They lost. Yukio was destroyed,
Tetsuo escaped in a capsule, and eight years later woke up on an unrecognizable
Earth: completely covered in ice and snow. A snowball Earth. The story explores
what happened to humanity, how the planet got to that state, and whether Tetsuo
can fulfill the last promise he made to Yukio.
For now there are no details about the premiere
date, possible changes in the team or the cast for the second season. More
information is expected in the coming months.
About Snowball Earth
Snowball Earth is a manga by Yuhiro Tsujitsugu that
mixes the mecha genre with a post-apocalyptic science fiction narrative in a
scenario where the loss of humanity in an intergalactic war is the starting
point, not the climax. The premise of a pilot who wakes up eight years later in
a world he no longer recognizes has an emotional weight that the series uses as
an engine of mystery: what really happened during those years, is there anyone
else left, what does the promise Tetsuo made to his destroyed robot mean? The
second season will have to answer those questions.
