There are
series that have been asking for years with an entire community "and when
will the anime?" Overgeared was one of them. The popular
webtoon and web novel has just officially confirmed that it will have an
animated adaptation, with a premiere scheduled for October 2026. REDICE
Studio revealed that the animated adaptation of the popular webtoon
will be called Tempal ~Item no Chikara~. A promotional teaser
was also shared, the first visual of the project and that the production will
be in charge of J.C.Staff.
Leading the
direction will be Ayako Kono, who already has experience handling
high-octane fantasy: she directed the two Sword Art Online films the
Movie -Progressive-, which makes it a choice that makes sense
considering Overgeared's DNA as a VRMMO story. The scripts are
written by Kenta Ihara, known for his work on Saga of Tanya
the Evil and Uncle from Another World. The character
design is also named after a Kenta Ihara, although it is a
different person, previously in charge of Demon Lord 2099. The
music is composed by Yoshiaki Fujisawa, with Pony Canyon in
the music production, and EGG FIRM as executive producer of
the project.
The voice cast
- Tatsumaru Tachibana as Grid (Youngwoo
Shin) (Jin Mori in The God of High School and
Basen in The Apothecary Diaries).
- Asami Seto as Yura (The
unmistakable Nobara Kugisaki in Jujutsu Kaisen and Mai
Sakurajima in Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai).
About
Overgeared
Overgeared is a webtoon by REDICE
Studio based on the web novel by Park Saenal, with a
script by Lee Dong-Wook and illustrations by Team Argo.
The story follows Youngwoo Shin, a guy who in real life barely
survives by paying off debts with odd jobs and who his own family has already
dismissed as a hopeless case. Within the VRMMO Satisfy, his alter
ego Grid doesn't exactly start out as a promise either: he's
mediocre, he's unlucky and doesn't excel at anything. Everything changes when
he finds a tome with the lost knowledge of a legendary blacksmith. The problem
is that using it resets all of its levels. Forced to start from
scratch, Grid discovers that if he can't win skillfully, he can equip items so
powerful that skill no longer matters. That's where the title comes
from, and that's where its huge readership base comes from.
