The wait is over for those who wanted to relive
the beginning of the final massacre from the comfort of their living room. The
production committee behind the animated adaptation of Demon Slayer:
Kimetsu no Yaiba confirmed that the first film in the Infinite Castle
trilogy will officially land in the Crunchyroll catalog this
coming July 28. The feature film, distributed outside Japan under
the title Infinity Castle I, will feature a massive rollout of
subtitle and dubbing options, including the expected Latin Spanish. In
addition, those who prefer to have it in their definitive digital library will
be able to purchase it the same day through on-demand services
such as Apple TV and Prime Video.
To talk about the impact of this franchise is
to talk about numbers that intimidate any other production in the industry.
During its run in theaters, which started in July 2025 and lasted for 266
uninterrupted days in Japan (under the title Akaza Sairai), the
film sold more than 27 million tickets, grossing the absurd figure of 40.2
billion and in locally. However, its international performance was even more
aggressive: it surpassed the 100 billion and in barrier globally, becoming the
first Japanese production to achieve this milestone and displacing Spirited
Away as the second highest-grossing film in Japanese history, behind
only its monstrous predecessor. Mugen Train.
The perfect prelude to the grand closing
Beyond the overwhelming commercial performance,
the ufotable studio's masterpiece swept the last awards season.
It won Best Animated Film at the 49th Japan Academy Film Prizes, triumphed at
the Tokyo Anime Award Festival and garnered heavy nominations at both the
Golden Globes and the Saturn Awards. All this critical acclaim serves as a
brutal reminder that this production is just the first act of a massive film
trilogy aimed at adapting the definitive story arc, where the hunters will
collide head-on with the remaining Upper Moons.
