The production committee behind the
incombustible franchise finally released the
details of the mysterious film project that they had been advancing since the
tenth anniversary event in 2022. This ambitious new foray into the big screen
will be officially titled Sword Art Online -Integral Domain-,
marking its definitive premiere in theaters in Japan by 2028. The
main hook of this original feature film is that its plot is positioned
chronologically right after the chaotic events of the Alicization story arc,
directly expanding the canon of the TV series.
To ensure that the technical section lives up
to the expectations generated by a theatrical release, the animation production
is being carried out by a solid duo made up of A-1 Pictures and Psyde
Kick Studio. The general director chair was claimed by veteran Shingo
Adachi, an indispensable figure in the history of the franchise having
served as chief animation director during the first seasons. The visual
aesthetics and character design fall on the talent of Yumiko Yamamoto, while
the creator of the original work, Reki Kawahara, took full responsibility
for writing this unpublished story for the film that will be distributed by

Aincrad's literary legacy remains intact
It's fascinating to see how the popularity of
this virtual reality universe refuses to slow down. Born as a self-published
web novel in 2001 and formalized under the Dengeki Bunko imprint of the
Kadokawa publishing house in 2009, the light novel is already
approaching thirty volumes in print thanks to new stages such as Moon Cradle
and Unital Ring. And to make the four-year wait for the film's release more
bearable, players will be able to return to this universe with the release
of Echoes of Aincrad, a new action RPG that will arrive on modern
platforms this July.
Considering the immense gestation time that
this film will have by the hand of A-1 Pictures
