Solo Leveling Franchise Announces Beyond the System Animated Feature

The panel dedicated to the franchise at the recent Anime Expo just dropped an S-rank bombshell. Just as the audience was speculating about the next step for Sung Jin-Woo following the events of the second season, the production committee formally announced the development of Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, the new film in the franchise. The reveal was accompanied by an intense concept video and a first promotional art, making it clear that the Monarch of Shadows will seek to take over the world box office in cinematic format.

To ensure that the action sequences retain their characteristic visual brutality, the offices of A-1 Pictures regained absolute control of the animation. However, the most interesting fact falls on the shoulders of Tao Tajima, who not only occupies the director's chair for this feature film, but also absorbed the positions of director of photography, editor and colorimetry manager. Meanwhile, the experienced Tomoko Sudo returns to the drawing board as a character designer and key animation supervisor, ensuring that the monsters and hunters stay completely true to the art of origin. On a logistical level, the project has enormous financial backing, operating as a massive co-production between Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C MEDIA and Kakao Piccoma.

An unstoppable transmedia expansion

The dominance that this license exercises over contemporary industry is unbridled. What was born as a dense web novel written by Chugong, then graphically exploded thanks to the late artist DUBU's spectacular illustrations within the webtoon format between 2018 and 2021, is now a commercial mainstay. After the impact of its first animated adaptation at the beginning of 2024 and its direct sequel in 2025, the brand has been able to squeeze other sectors of the market. Its leap into video games has been lethal with installments such as Solo Leveling: Arise and the recent ARISE OVERDRIVE, not to mention that the Asian division is already working on a live-action series for Korean television.
