The shadows of Academy City are
about to be stained with blood once again. The production committee
behind A Certain Item of Dark Side released the main trailer
for this long-awaited animated adaptation, confirming that October 9 is
the date chosen to start its broadcasts on Japanese television. This advance
holds nothing back in terms of graphic violence, showing the brutal disparity
between massacring personnel in clandestine laboratories and having casual
chats worthy of office workers in their break time.
To set this level of hostility, the musical
section will play a fundamental role. The opening theme is titled "Ghost
Sequence" and is performed by the group East Of Eden, who
sought to capture the tension of surviving an extremely heavy reality. The
closing, aptly named "Meltdowner", is in charge of Kishida
Kyodan & The Akeboshi Rockets, ensuring that it will be one of the most
aggressive and darkest tracks of their entire career. All of this tactical
chaos is being orchestrated within the facilities of the J.C. STAFF studio,
with Tatsuyuki Nagai occupying the director's chair,
accompanied by Shigeki Kimoto in character design and Maiko Iuchi composing the
original soundtrack.
The side that Academy City wants to hide
For those who need geographical context, this
series works as a direct spin-off of the massive Toaru franchise,
drastically moving away from heroic speeches to focus on ITEM. This
elite squad operates in the city's underworld, taking on dirty jobs, murders,
and cover-ups that could never come to light in a metropolis where the vast
majority of its residents are mere students. The central plot of this season
will step on the accelerator with the arrival of a fifth member of the group,
Chōbi Hanano, an addition that will drag Mugino and the rest of the team into a
deep conspiracy that threatens to destroy their own rules of operation.
