In the ninth edition of Young King Ours magazine by Shonengahosha, a new chapter of the manga published and illustrated by Kouta Hirano, Drifters, was published after a seven-month hiatus. Before the current chapter, the previous one was published in December 2019.
Hirano began publishing the manga in Shonengahosha's Young King Ours magazine in April 2009. The publisher published the sixth compilation volume in November 2018.
The work inspired a twelve-episode anime adaptation produced by Hoods Drifters Studio, directed by Kenichi Suzuki and scripts written by Hideyuki Kurata, released in October 2016.
Drifters Synopsis
At the beginning of the Edo period, the samurai Toyohisa Shizu finds himself in the midst of a bloody battle against the legendary Tokugawa clan to ensure the successful withdrawal of the Shimazu clan forces.
After his entire unit is massacred, Toyohisa manages on his own to force the enemy to retreat, but is mortally wounded. Upon exiting the dejected battlefield, he finds himself in a mysterious white hallway, where he is immediately thrown into a doorway. Reacting, he realizes that he is in another world, and there he meets the "Drifters", other legendary warriors who died and ended up in the same space.
