Studio Ghibli, a company recognized by animation
lovers around the world, is synonymous with some of the most successful anime
films in Japanese history. However, according to Hayao Miyazaki's son,
Goro Miyazaki, the Studio
Ghibli team should continue to be wary of competing animators in the
industry.
Recently, the Cannes International Film Festival
awarded an honorary Palme d'Or to Studio Ghibli, a historic achievement for the
company and a first for Cannes, which until then had only awarded the prize to
individuals and not to organizations or groups. Although Hayao Miyazaki
himself was unable to attend, Goro Miyazaki traveled abroad to accept the award
on behalf of his father.
As detailed by Yahoo! News Japan, Miyazaki briefly
commented that his father is already thinking about his next film. However, he
also stated that his father will not divulge any details about the project:
" She won't tell anyone. He will never say it. Even at that
age, all the animators around him are his rivals, whether they are younger than
him, the staff who support him, whether they are inside or outside the company .
Hayao Miyazaki's fears are not unfounded, as
plagiarism is a legitimate concern for artists in any major industry.
Additionally, Studio Ghibli's iconic status makes it an even bigger target for
competitors in the animation world. In particular ,
"Mobile Suit Gundam" creator Yoshiyuki Tomino has publicly
called on the next generation of Japanese animators to "crush"
Miyazaki's empire with his own creative efforts. « Everyone,
please work hard to crush Miyazaki! I can’t take it anymore ,” Tomino
declared. « Young creators should not take it lightly. "They
can't surpass Miyazaki or One Piece without really dedicating themselves ."
