Author Yū
Harii announced this Monday through his official X account (formerly
Twitter) that his Crusher Joe REBIRTH manga will resume
serialization soon. Although an exact date for its return has not yet been
confirmed, the news has excited fans of this classic science fiction franchise.
Additionally,
Harii reported that all chapters published so far are available for
free on Kodansha 's Comic Days app and
website , until June 18 (UTC+2, Spain time).
A return
expected since 2022
Crusher
Joe REBIRTH had
announced in 2022 that it would be going on an indefinite
hiatus. This wasn't the first time the manga had been put on hiatus: it had
already been put on hold in October 2020 , and briefly
returned in July 2021 with the adaptation of the original
novel Crusher Joe: Rentai Wakusei Pizanne no Kiki (Crisis on
the Solidarity Planet Pizanne), published by Haruka Takachino in 1977 .
A
franchise with a galactic legacy
It
debuted in
Kodansha's Evening magazine in September 2017 .
The character designs are by renowned creator and animator Yoshikazu
Yasuhiko , known for his work on Mobile Suit Gundam: The
Origin . To date, the publisher has compiled five volumes, the latest
of which was released in February 2022 .
From
novels to the screen
The
Crusher Joe saga began
as a series of novels written by Takachino and was first
adapted into a manga in 1979 , illustrated by Fujihiko
Hosono . Sunrise later adapted the story into an anime film
in 1983 and a video project in 1989. Both
works were distributed in North America by AnimEigo .
The story
takes us to a galaxy fraught with danger, where even the Unified Space
Force can't solve every problem. Into that void step the Crushers ,
experts in impossible missions... as long as the pay is generous. And among
them all, no one is better than the legendary Crusher Joe .
