This Thursday, the official account of the web magazine Comic Ride, published by Micro Magazine, announced that the light novel series "Gacha Girls Corps" (original title: Gachi wo Mawashite Nakama wo Fuyasu: Saikyō no Bishōjo Gundan wo Tsukuriagero) will soon have an anime adaptation.

The original work, written by Chinkururi with illustrations by Yasutaka Isegawa, presents a crazy story with a protagonist trapped in another world, who summons ultra-rare girls in the style of a gacha video game.

One Summon Changes Everything

The story follows Heihachi, a fan of gacha mobile games with a disastrous financial history. His life takes a turn when he obtains a mysterious item that transports him to a fantasy world. Surrounded by monsters and not knowing what to do, he turns to what he knows best: playing gacha!

To his surprise, his summoned unit physically appears before him. Accustomed to seeing cute girls on screen, he must now deal with their presence in the real world. Thus begins his adventure to form a squad of ultra-rare (UR) girls, with extraordinary abilities and unique personalities.

A path from web portal to anime

The series was launched in January 2016 on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō ("Let's Become Novelists") portal. Months later, in November 2016, Micro Magazine began its physical publication with nine volumes, concluding in 2020.

The manga version, adapted by Syū Haruno, began serialization in 2018 in Comic Ride. This Thursday, coinciding with the anime announcement, the 12th compiled book volume of the manga was released in Japan.

Western License and Growing Success

The publisher Kaiten Books distributes the manga in English and describes the series as: "UR-GUARANTEED to have the adventure of a lifetime!" The comical style, engaging designs, and references to gamer culture have made Gacha Girls Corps a hidden gem of the isekai genre, now ready to make the leap to animation.

The premiere date and the studio behind the adaptation have yet to be revealed, but fans of absurd humor, random summons, and girls with disproportionate abilities now have another series to add to their radar.
