On Friday, May 3, Kadokawa publishing house  revealed a new promotional teaser for the anime "Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games" ( Tai Ari Deshita: Ojō-sama wa Kakutō Game Nante Shinai ), based on the manga by Eri Ejima . The preview not only featured new voices and details from the production team, but also an unexpected collaboration with Street Fighter 6 , the popular CAPCOM fighting game , which will appear as an essential part of the story.

New voices join the fight

New additions to the cast include:

  • Sayaka Senbongi will play Yu Inui , a cheerful and enthusiastic student who serves on the boarding school's disciplinary committee. A fan of fighting games since childhood, she becomes involved with Aya, Mio, and Tamaki and ends up delving into their world.
  • Shino Shimoji will voice Tamaki Ichinose , the strict fourth-floor attendant of the boarding school. She hates losing and secretly plays fighting games out of admiration for a certain person.

A top-level team behind the project

The series will be directed by Shōta Ihata ( Domestic Girlfriend , Girlish Number ) at studio diomedéa . The script is by Wataru Watari ( My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU ), while the character designs are in the hands of Mayuko Matsumoto ( Kan Colle , Parallel World Pharmacy ).

The music will be composed by Kana Hashiguchi , and the technical team includes Scott MacDonald as art director, Maho Takahashi as art director, Yuki Hayashi as colorist, and Yasuyuki Itou as cinematographer. Editing will be handled by Toshihiko Kojima , while sound will be supervised by Yayoi Tateishi .

Additionally, professional esports team FAV Gaming —affiliated with Kadokawa and specializing in Street Fighter 6 —collaborated in the recording of gameplay scenes.

Protagonists who break with convention

The main cast includes:

  • Ikumi Hasegawa as Aya Mitsuki , an ordinary girl who managed to enter Kuromi Academy on scholarship. Although she appears calm, she has been familiar with fighting games since childhood.
  • Kana Ichinose as Mio Yorue , nicknamed “Shirayuri-sama” for her beauty and elegance, but who hides an intense passion for video games, despite being a bad student.

From competition to romance?

The story is set at the prestigious Kuromi Girls' Academy , an institution where elegance and good behavior are everything. Aya , a scholarship student, deeply admires Mio , who seems to be the epitome of perfection... until she discovers her most shameful secret: she's a die-hard gamer and aggressive in virtual battles!

What begins as a silent rivalry could transform into an unexpected emotional connection between the two young women, fueled by their shared passion for no-rules fighting games.

Expected release and trajectory of the manga

The anime adaptation was first announced in 2021 and is slated to premiere in 2025. The original manga has been serialized in Monthly Comic Flapper magazine since January 2020, and its eighth compiled book volume was released on October 22 , 2024. The English version is being distributed by Seven Seas Publishing .

With its combination of high school comedy, video game duels, and potential emotional bonds, this series promises to be one of the most unique surprises of the season.
