Crunchyroll has officially announced that
it has acquired the worldwide film distribution rights – with
the exception of Asia – for the long-awaited film Miss Kobayashi's
Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved, produced by the renowned
studio Kyoto Animation.
The film
will be released in theaters in Japan on June 27, and for
English-speaking audiences, its release in original version with English
subtitles in North American theaters is confirmed, although
the release dates in the latter case have yet to be announced.
A luxury
team behind the magic
The feature
film is directed by Tatsuya Ishihara, known for his work in Clannad and Violet
Evergarden. The script has been written by Yuka Yamada,
while Miku Kadowaki, responsible for the original character designs
of the series, repeats as lead designer and animation director.
The
original manga is the work of Coolkyousinnjya and is published
in Futabasha's Manga Action magazine. In the Western
market, Seven Seas Entertainment is in charge of its English
edition.
A story
that will confront worlds
The story
follows Miss Kobayashi, Tohru, Kanna,
and Iruru, who enjoy a quiet life until the dreaded Kamun
Kamui, Kanna's father and leader of the Forces of Chaos, appears to take
her back to the world of dragons.
With a war
looming between the factions of Chaos and Harmony, Kanna must make
a decision that will mark the fate of both worlds. However, Miss
Kobayashi is not willing to lose her without a fight, and will seek to
restore the broken bond between father and daughter.
Meanwhile,
Iruru will discover a dark hidden force that manipulates the
conflict from the shadows. Will they manage to avoid a catastrophe that could
destroy everything? The previous two seasons of the anime are available
on Crunchyroll, ideal for catching up before the theatrical
release.
