One of the most beloved and heartbreaking stories in contemporary anime will now be available for global
streaming Six years after its original release in Japanese theaters, the
acclaimed film Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming
Girl (Seishun
Buta Yarou wa Yumemiru Shoujo no Yume wo Minai) officially arrives
on Crunchyroll. The announcement was made by Aniplex of America and Crunchyroll, confirming that the film will be
available this Thursday, June 19 at 5:00 PM PT.
The film
is the second installment of the AoButa universe, and adapts
volumes 6 and 7 of the original light novels written by Hajime
Kamoshida.
Synopsis: Shoko's return and an impossible
dilemma The film picks up the story six months after the events
of Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. Sakuta Azusagawa
believes that the worst of Adolescence Syndrome is behind her and that she can
quietly enjoy her relationship with Mai Sakurajima. But the sudden appearance
of Shoko Makinohara, his first love, shakes him completely.
Worse,
there are two versions of Shoko coexisting: a young,
terminally ill one and an adult one, mysterious and full of secrets. As
Sakuta's emotional world falls apart, he must face painful decisions
that will test his heart and morality.
A film that impacts both emotionally and visually
Directed by Souichi Masui and animated by the
acclaimed CloverWorks studio, the film has been
considered one of the highlights of the franchise, both for its script – the
work of Masahiro Yokotani – and for its art direction,
animation and the emotional interpretation of its characters.
The
character direction was in charge of Satomi Tamura, who also worked
on the main series.
AoButa continues to expand: new movie on the way
Crunchyroll also confirmed that the first two seasons of the anime,
including Bunny Girl Senpai, are now available on its platform. In
addition, a new installment of the universe is coming: Rascal Does Not
Dream of Santa Claus, which will air next month.
The Rascal
Does Not Dream franchise has been praised for its mix of
emotional science fiction, introspective romance and philosophical dilemmas in
a teenage key, making it one of the most relevant cult gems of the last
decade.
An unmissable opportunity for fans of the saga and new viewers
The premiere of Dreaming Girl on Crunchyroll represents the
first time that the film will be widely available for streaming, allowing
more fans to experience one of the most intense and moving narrative arcs in
recent anime.
If you haven't seen the series yet, this is the perfect time to delve into the universe of Sakuta, Mai and company, and prepare for what is to come.
