Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine announced that the Fūto Tantei manga will go on hiatus, although it has already been confirmed that it will resume publication in autumn 2025 with a new narrative arc. It is not the first time that this has happened, since the work had a break in February and returned in April of this year.

A manga in its final stage

In January 2024, it was revealed that the series had entered its "last stage", and the 17th compilation volume announced that the manga was heading towards its final arc. Currently, Shogakukan published volume 18 on March 28, reinforcing readers' expectation for the conclusion of this story.

Origin and production of the work

Fūto Tantei is the direct sequel to 2009's Kamen Rider W. The script is in charge of Riku Sanjō, who was a key writer on the original series, while Masaki Satou (Love Theory) is in charge of the art.

Oversight falls to Toei producer Hideaki Tsukada, and the creature design was done by Katsuya Terada (Blood: The Last Vampire). The story is still set in Fūto City, with protagonists Shotaro Hidari and Philip facing new mysteries and threats.

In the windy city of Fūto, Shotaro and Philip keep the peace as protectors, but strange events continue to disturb the tranquility. The appearance of Tokime, a mysterious young woman, marks the beginning of a new fight against a shadow that threatens the entire city.

Multimedia expansion and legacy

The manga debuted in Weekly Big Comic Spirits in August 2017 and has since inspired multiple adaptations. The FUUTO PI anime premiered in August 2022 as part of the 50th anniversary of the Kamen Rider franchise, available on Crunchyroll internationally.

The film Fūto Tantei: Kamen Rider Skull no Shōzō was also released in November 2023 and a stage adaptation titled Fūto Tantei The STAGE, presented in Tokyo and Osaka between December 2022 and January 2023.

The Kamen Rider W series aired in Japan from September 2009 to August 2010, being the eleventh installment of the Heisei era. The protagonists were played by Renn Kiriyama as Shotaro Hidari and Masaki Suda as Philip, consolidating itself as one of the most beloved productions of the franchise.
