The
successful indie video game NEEDY GIRL OVERDOSE, known in Japan
as Nidiga, will receive an anime adaptation that will premiere
in april 2026. Production will be in charge of the studio Yostar
Pictures, recognized by titles such as Arknights and Blue
Archive. Additionally, one was announced special film edition which
will be projected in it Shinjuku Theatre from Tokyo and
the Theater Umeda from Osaka before the television premiere.
The
original video game, developed by playground, portrays the thirty
intense days in the life of Ame, an emotionally fragile young woman
who dreams of becoming the most popular streamer in the world. Under the
alias OMGkawaiiAngel (KAngel), his story explores themes of
anxiety, fame and digital dependence. The title has sold more than 3
million copies and surpassed the 400 million musical views on
global platforms.
An
original story for the television adaptation
The anime
will be directed by Masaoki Nakashima, who previously worked
at Blue Archive and in the animated short of NEEDY
GIRL OVERDOSE. According to the official statement, the series will offer
one unpublished narrative adapted to the television format,
with new perspectives on the characters and the virtual world that surrounds
them.
The
first visual teaser it shows KAngel standing on a stage
illuminated with the motto “Look at me.”, while the first
promotional video offers a glimpse into the psychological and visual tone that
will characterize the series. The early film version it will
consist of a special montage of selected episodes, available exclusively in
Japanese theaters before the television premiere.
With its mix of digital aesthetics and criticism of the phenomenon of fame on the internet, NEEDY GIRL OVERDOSE it is emerging as one of the most anticipated productions of 2026.
