While the rest of the world enjoys the new battles between gods and humans, an entire country has been left out of the arena. The long-awaited Season 3 of Record of Ragnarok (Shuumatsu no Valkyrie) is now available on Netflix globally, but fans in India are still unable to access it through official channels. The reason is a veto that stands firm because of longstanding religious controversies.
Prohibition is not new, but the arrival of the new episodes has reignited local frustration. It all goes back to the depiction of Lord Shiva in the anime, which generated strong objections from Hindu religious groups who considered the work disrespectful to their deity. As a result, Netflix removed the series from its Indian catalog after the first season.
A total and continuous blockade
Censorship has been so strict that no local streaming service is allowed to stream the series. This has meant that neither the second nor the current Season 3 have seen the light of day in Indian territory. Even as the franchise's popularity continues to grow around the world, the Indian market remains in a total blackout, with no legal way to watch the Ragnarok tournament continue.
