The plot
centers on Mikoto Misaka, one of the most powerful students in
Academy City and one of the few espers classified as Level 5. Known for her
ability to manipulate electricity to devastating levels, earning her the
nickname "Railgun," Mikoto navigates between her everyday school life
and the dark scientific experiments that threaten the peace of the city.
Accompanied by a strong female cast, the protagonist faces constant corporate
dangers and underground conspiracies.
The manga
functions as a direct spin-off of the massive Toaru franchise,
originated by Kazuma Kamachi's A Certain Magical Index light
novels. It began publication in 2007, quickly standing out for balancing
intense action sequences with moments of school comedy. Over the course of
almost two decades, the work managed to forge an identity of its own that, in
many aspects of popularity, came to rival and even surpass its parent series.
